Reduces fat absorption and helps control body weight.
Ascophyllum is a brown seaweed found mostly along the North Atlantic Ocean coasts, in Canada and in Europe.
Ascophyllum is traditionally used to help lose weight as part of a diet. Indeed, being rich in phlorotanins, this brown seaweed can inhibit pancreatic lipases, essential enzymes for fat absorption and metabolism.
Also, several studies on the short-term effects of taking alginates found in ascophyllum have shown that it promotes fullness, reduces energy requirements and thus helps with weight loss.
Ascophyllum is sometimes called in French "The Knot seaweed" because of its long strips crossed by small knot-like bumps.
RESTRICTIONS AND RISKS:
Ascophyllum is completely harmless in small physiological doses and does not present any risk of side effects. However, as a precaution, its consumption is not recommended without medical advice to children and people suffering from thyroid disorders because of its high salt content. Pregnant or breast-feeding women must also have the prior authorization of their doctor before consuming it.
